Draft Statement of Accounts 2023/24 – Public Notice
Notice of delayed publication and period of inspection
The Accounts and Audit (Amendment) Regulations 2021 require the Council to publish the unaudited Statement of Accounts for the financial year ending 31 March 2024 by 31st May 2024. Notice is given that the Council has not yet completed and published the draft Statement of Accounts for 2023/24 and commenced the period for the exercise of public inspection. A draft set of accounts will be published as soon as reasonably practicable, following which the period of the exercise of public inspection will commence.

2022/23 Financial Statements

The external audit of the draft statement of accounts for the year ended 31 March 2023 has not yet been completed by our external auditors, EY LLP, due to the complex set of factors contributing to audit delays across the sector. This situation is allowed for by Regulation 10, paragraph (2a) of the Accounts and Audit Regulations 2015. (See: The Accounts and Audit Regulations 2015 (legislation.gov.uk)). Therefore, this notification explains, as per paragraph (2a), that we are not yet able to publish our audited 2022/23 final statement of accounts in line with deadline of 30th September 2023, as per paragraph (1). The Audit Committee will consider the results of the 2022/23 audit, after which we will publish the final audited accounts.
The finance department is responsible for the overall monitoring and control of the Authority's finances. This ranges from preparing the Budgets and Council Tax proposals during the year, to the preparation of the Annual Accounts at the end of the financial year. We have to review current legislation to ensure that we disclose all required information. We work closely with all Council departments to make sure that we are getting the best from the Council's funding.
