Update on the investment in the Mill Arts & Events Centre and upcoming events

Date

At a meeting of Rochford District Council’s Economic Development, Regeneration & Tourism Committee this week (12 September), councillors were presented with a comprehensive update on the infrastructure works already carried out in the Mill Arts & Events Centre, the future works planned, and progress on its current operation – which has included an increase in income from bookings.

Some of the works recently carried out to the building are: roof repairs; lift replacement; and new floor finish and redecoration of upstairs hall, which is a bookable venue for celebrations. Future works are also being investigated that would support the Centre’s environmental sustainability.

Coming up over the coming months are six market testing events, which include a Dirty Dancing Disco Party, Cheesy Bingo Party and a Christmas Party Night. To support the success of the planned events and to help gather market research, a specialist marketing company with experience in raising the profile of similar venues – have been commissioned for a six-month period.

Councillor Michael Hoy, Rochford District Council’s Chair of the Economic Development, Regeneration & Tourism Committee, said: “I’m pleased that the Mill Arts & Events Centre is starting to see the benefits of our investment in its infrastructure, that there is future investment committed and that we are already bringing a diverse range of events and experiences to the Centre for our residents and visitors to enjoy.

“But this is very much a work in progress, we’ve agreed the timeline for more works and evidence gathering, along with in depth market research to help us make the Centre sustainable with the right operating model. Residents can help by sharing their views in our Cultural & Visitor Economy Survey, which includes questions on the Mill Arts & Events Centre, Freight House, and where people and families visit when in the District.”

There is still time to share your views in our Cultural & Visitor Economy Survey, just visit www.rochford.gov.uk/ukspf before 19 September. Paper copies of the survey are available at the Rochford District Council offices in South Street and at The Mill Arts & Events Centre.
